January, 2013. After last year, coming back to Japan was a no brainer and this year was even better. After last year we did a bit more exploring and found some new zones and areas that we had never been before. We were in Niseko for just under 3 weeks and apart from one day when it rained, we got 15-25 cm of new snow everyday... it just didn't stop. I think we must of seen the sun no more than a handfull of times with only one bluebird day.

As well as scoping new zones, we hopped on Black Diamond Tours' famous Mushroom tour twice where we drove around in a van finding avi barriers, pillows, steep lines (which are hard to find in Japan) and snow almost as deep as we are tall. Thanks to Gordy, Colin, Mitch, Hayden and Jordy from Back Diamond Tours for taking us out.

As usual it was hard to find a balance between skiing and filming but we managed it and had an awesome time during our short trip.

Surfing Baler, Philippines

October, 2013.

Three weeks before the trip my friend called me up and asked if I wanted to go to the Philippines on a Surf trip. He said "It's cheap as chips mate We will spend less there then we will at home" and I was sold. I checked the dairy and had nothing on so I thought why not.

There are many surf spots to go in the Philippines but they are becoming incredible popular due to the high quality of waves and as I stated earlier, cheap Island life. So we picked Baler, a lesser known spot where we were hoping for less crowds. Baler delivered. Not only were we among the few few foreigners but the lineups were generally small and in some spots we were the only ones there. The locals there were super friendly and happy to show us around to the best spots and give us pointers along the way. Being only a year into surfing myself this was awesome!

The surfers include myself (but only a couple shots), my friend Andrew and our surf guide Mike. It also includes surfing from Leo a friend we met whist we were there and several locals who welcomed us from day one!

Hope you enjoy!

Something Japanese

January, 2012. Following up on a disappointing 2010 the winter of 2012 lived up and surpassed all expectation. Skiing knee, sometimes waist deep, in fresh Japanese powder provided the venue to our best ever skiing as well as the perfect cultural backdrop to "Something Japanese". After an additional week with the excellent Black Diamond Lodge touring Hokkaido I couldn't have asked for a better start to 2012.

Summer Docking

Summer, 2011. Another Hong Kong summer, another edit - new locations that include the Rock Pools in Sai Wan and Shek O beach area mixed with old favourites from Tai Tam. Brand new angles were used and more talents are decorated throughout and many weekends later I came up with this fast upbeat edit.

852 Waters

Summer, 2010.  Bridge jumping and diving boards were the make up of the 2010 Hong Kong summer. Shot with the then brand new Canon 7D and the waterproof Go Pro it provided the perfect backdrop to take the new camera for a spin. The short edit was filmed at Tai Tam Reservoir Country Park and the LRC; tucked away up in mid-levels.

Crack-A-Towa

June, 2012. What started off as a small idea turned into a lengthy and time consuming process, one which brought new software into play and had me learning brand new set of skills.  Experience a day the life of a volcano through "Crack-a-Towa".

Hong Kong Rugby Tens

April, 2012. Each year, Hong Kong Football Club hosts what can only be described as the best Rugby 10s tournament in the world. Teams from all over the world come to play, many of which have ex international players on their teams either coaching or playing. The standard gets higher and higher each year with this year being no exception. Its a great event leading straight into the world renowned Hong Kong Rugby 7's weekend making it a week of rugby not to be missed

Bali Rugby Tens

October, 2012. 10 years ago, Bali experienced a terrible bombing where 27 people were killed. Many of which were rugby players, fans and friends that had attended the Bali Rugby Fest in 2002. This year I went along to the event to commemorate the 10 anniversary of the bombing and film the event with the boys from Tsunami Sport.

The event was fantastic as many teams returned from 10 years ago and many more joined the festivities. The games were played in great spirit and everyone was having a good time. I had a couple days before the tournament to go see what Bali had to offer and being renowned for its surfing I went to Uluwatu, a popular surf spot which can be seen in the video.

Warrior, MuayThai

April, 2012. Produced a new video for the launch of Warrior's new Muay Thai gym in Hong Kong.

Coca Cola Ad

March, 2012. For every rugby fan, both local and worldwide, the annual pilgrimage to the Hong Kong Sevens is often the highlight of the year. As the last weekend of March draws near Hong Kong whips up into a fever of excitement as the fans descend upon Hong Kong and the local watering holes over flow.

In the weeks prior, I was lucky enough to be asked by Coca Cola to shot a 15-second advert that was to be played on the stadium’s giant screen. It was a rugby themed edit and with friends as the actors this year was a certainly a weekend to remember.

Coastal Fitness

Janurary, 2012. A promotional video for a a friends building business in Hong Kong. None of the athletes are actors - all pain and sweat is real!

Hobbit's Adventure

February, 2013. A short edit under the tag line, "How far would you go..." to into the team and into the perfect rugby kit.

Memories of War - The Hospital

January, 2013. Part 2 of my Grandpa's World War II story takes place in a Hospital in Italy where he was held as a Prisoner of War.

Learning Italian through the daily newspapers and a English-Italian dictionary would prove to be a life saving endeavour.

Memories of War - The Capture

September, 2012. For years my Grandfather wouldn't talk about his war experiences and I was amazed to discover that my Dad really only knew the bare bones of his story. It was only recently, when we (the grand kids) started asking questions, did he start talking about his experience before getting comfortable enough to write down his memoirs. The stories seem endless; it only feels right to capture his experiences from being captured by the Germans, his eventual escape after learning Italian through a English-Italian dictionary before  skiing out the remainder of the war in Switzerland.

He might be 93 but tells a good story

Saint

November, 2012. Official video for the single Saint by Jade Hopcroft

I went back to the UK in September and was lucky enough to be able to help shoot the music video for Jade's new single "Saint", which is to be released on the 19th of November. The video was shot in a single day and we were lucky enough to have perfect weather for the shoot. It was a pleasure to help make her vision see the light of day and she was a joy to work with!

You can support and pre-order her single "here". I recommend you do.

THE CAPTURE

September, 2012. For years my Grandfather wouldn't talk about his war experiences and I was amazed to discover that my Dad only knew the bare bones of his story. It wasn't  until the last few years and only after he started writing his memoirs that he has begun to  (endlessly) tell us all about when he was captured, his life as a prisoner of war, his escape and his experiences in Switzerland.

He might be 93 but tells a good story!

Crack-a-Towa

May, 2012. A short hand drawn animation about a Volcanoes day. I started out just wanting to make any animation as I've never done anything like it before. That then developed in to creating a short piece. The idea came out of nowhere and was purely improvised as I got further into the animation.

Was a fun project to do, even when it crashed a few times meaning I had to re-do a lot of the piece again..

Harbour Lights

March, 2012. Kung Hei Fat Choi!

My first Chinese New Year back in Hong Kong for several years. After being in the UK, HK fireworks displays really put their fireworks to shame. The amount of noise being created and the duration of the show (24mins roughly) was amazing! We managed to get to the front row at the harbour as well. Just before the show it rained fairly heavily and some people left so we jumped in and a few minutes later the rain stopped. WIN!

" ... SOMETHING JAPANESE ... "

January, 2012. I returned to Niseko, Japan after a having a dry week 2 years ago. This year turned out a little different. There wasn't a day without snow and we had the some of the deepest days on snow we may have ever had. A friend from the UK also came to join for a few days at the end and we then carried on after the family had left for another week touring Japanese resorts with Black Diamond Lodge, needless to say it was pretty excellent.

Being able to get the right balance between filming and skiing was pretty tough and this video really doesn't show how much snow we actually got... it was just fun to stop, film and watch everyone cruise through all the powder. I love Japan and will most certainly be going back.

Summer Docking

Summer, 2011. 2011 was another summer that came and went in Hong Kong in double quick time. A bunch of us went out to some new places I've never been before like the Rock Pools in Sai Wan (Sai Kung), whilst still hitting up the local haunts such as Shek O. My camera came along for the journey too. As always though, we went back to Tai Tam to go bridge jumping as that's always fun. I looked to try some new angles for this edit, but found it challenging with not much space to maneuver, still - got a few.

Looking forward to next year.

852 WATERS

Summer, 2010. I've spent the 2009 & 2010 summers working in Hong Kong and bridge jumping has always been an activity during the summer that has provided much enjoyment. After picking up a the new 7D I thought there would be no better way to test it than by making a short edit of our time there. The edit was filmed at Tai Tam Reservoir over 3 days and at the LRC.

Edited using Final Cut Pro, Cinema Tools and Twixtor for the extra slo-motion - awesome program. Colour Corrected using Final Cut's 3 way colour correction and graded with Magic Bullet Looks.
